Qualifications and Experience
Jason L Smith received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting from the University of Central Arkansas in 1995. Upon graduation, he worked on the audit staff of a regional certified public accounting firm with clients around the country. His employment with this firm enabled him to work on audit engagements for a variety of clients across the United States.
Jason then moved to a small local certified public accounting firm where he was able to learn the tax side of public accounting in a more detailed manner. Jason performed tax returns for all types of entities, including non-profit organizations, corporations, partnerships and individuals.
Taking a break from public accounting, Jason spent time as the Internal Audit Manager for a major for-profit college and served as the Assistant Controller for a nationwide trucking company before returning to public accounting in 2009. During his time at these organizations, he gained experience in all facets of an accounting department, including maintaining the general ledger and all related subsidiary ledgers, preparation of payroll reports, preparation of monthly and year-end internal financial statements, specialized reporting, cash flow analysis, and yearly budgeting. He also strengthened his internal control knowledge while at the college.
Jason’s experience in public accounting includes audits of non-profit organizations, nursing homes, hospitals, construction companies, distributors, manufacturers, and companies in the agricultural industry. His experience allowed him to gain intensive, specialized knowledge of Internal Revenue Code filing requirements for various tax returns. His experience includes extensive preparation of those tax returns for non-profit organizations, corporations, partnerships, and individuals.
Annually, Jason receives continuing professional education that meets or exceeds the requirements of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
